The Basic Life Support class is a specialized CPR class that encompasses all aspects of CPR and fundamental life support practices. It is intended for those who work within the healthcare field such as physicians or EMTs but training is not limited to those within the healthcare field. The certificate is provided by the American Heart Association and it is very easy to sign up for a class. The course provides training for those seeking renewal of their current certificate, are required to take the class for the first time by an employer or feel that a certificate would make your work environment a safer place. For example, if you work as a teacher or babysitter and the certificate is not required but the training would aid in an emergency situation. The certificate provides training for adult, child and infant CPR in order to cover a vast range of situations.
To sign up for the next class, first go to the top of the page and you will find a bar of options, click on “Register.” At this point you have three different options. You can take the course in a regular classroom, have a representative come to your home, or have a representative come to a 3rd party site. The last option is available for those who, for example, have new employees who all need to be certified or renewed. All give you the same certificate but your decision is based on your availability and convenience. The cost to take the course on the weekend in a classroom is $65 unless the student signs up less than 10 days before their requested class date, the price rises to $85. Similarly, if you wish to take the course at your home, scheduling a class ten days in advance is $95 while same day or next day training is $150. Lastly, on- site training payment is dependent on the number of people who need to be trained and the type of course they wish to take.
The type of course is determined by your occupation and the reason you wish to be certified. For example, there are more comprehensive courses available for those who may need more training such as an EMT driver. Once you have established how you wish to take the course, click on your option. You will then been asked a series of questions including your name, which course you wish to take and the date and time you are available to take it. The program staff is very flexible and will adhere to the needs of the students. On-site and in-home training allows for the staff to work around your schedule and there is not additional charge for requesting training outside of regular working hours. Additionally, if you are signing a group up for training, be sure to mention anyone who might need special assistance such as a bilingual textbook or may not be able to do certain exercises due to health reasons. The last thing you will need to do is pay for the course and you are all set to take the class. The programs suggests you buy the student manual in advance but there will also be some provided before your training session, as well.
What is CPR?
CPR is a sequence of steps an individual can take to help sustain the life of another individual who may be suffering from a cardiac arrest. CPR should be started immediately, once cardiac arrest is identified. Cardiac arrest can be assumed in any individual who does not appear to be breathing and who does not appear to be responsive. Assessing for a pulse in an individual can be very difficult and should only be assessed by individuals who are trained to do so. The use of an AED should only be performed by individuals who are trained on the device. When performing CPR on an individual in need, personal rescuer safety should be the top priority. It is important for professional rescuers and lay responders to assess for dangers before entering a scene to assist a victim. Remember if you get hurt trying to help, you will no longer be able to help the victim.
Why does the CPR sequence always appear to change? The most effective CPR sequences are supported by current scientific research. Up to date studies can help develop the most effective way to perform CPR in the field. It is important for healthcare providers and even lay responders to have an up to date understanding of CPR, so that they can be confident the CPR they are performing is effective. CPR like many medical procedures rely on current research to determine its effectiveness and the effectiveness of its components. It makes sense that non-effective components are replaced with effective understandings. It is important to understand that CPR sequences do not change arbitrarily. Changes in the CPR sequence are provoked by sophisticated research studies, passionately dedicated to optimizing the way CPR is performed.
At what age can someone take a CPR class? It is not our goal to restrict anyone from learning how to perform CPR, however it can be difficult for younger individuals to fully comprehend course skills and perform these techniques adequately. Giving breaths that effectively make the chest rise and fall and giving effective compressions which meet appropriate depths are essential for course completion. Individuals not able to perform these required skills will not successfully complete their CPR course and may require remediation of skills.
Could I take a CPR class earlier than the expiration?Taking a CPR class should always be considered an opportunity rather than a chore. CPR courses can be excellent catalysts for student discussions where students can share experiences with other students. CPR courses also offer great opportunities for students to practice techniques. Not everyone who completes a CPR course will have the opportunity to use their skills often. Attending a CPR course could be an excellent way to practice skills which are not frequently performed. Remember the best way to develop confidence performing CPR is to practice the skills as often as possible.
